What is Healthy Eating?

meat-lovers-pizzas-love-fruity-red-wine1When I told my son’s first pediatrician that I’m a holistic doctor, he became concerned and asked, “You aren’t a vegetarian are you?  Or a vegan?”

I smiled and replied, “Nope. I eat Big Mac Meals.”

He was incredibly relieved.

As has every pediatrician I’ve had since been.

The concern stemmed from wanting to ensure my kids got the nutrients they need to be healthy.

Especially protein.

I followed the comment by explaining  I don’t rely on supplements.  I knew supplements couldn’t make up for real food.  They are to supplement the diet.

They can make a miraculous difference but they are not a miracle cure.

It isn’t just doctors, either…

Squirm Worthy.  I always find it fascinating how people react to hearing I write about healing disease with food.

There’s enough media coverage that most people understand the importance of “eating right” but some – I think –  worry I’m going to lecture them or try to convince them.  Um, definitely not.

Depending on the direction the conversation goes, I may end up telling them I eat a normal American diet…most of the time.

Pizza is and has been the one food item I never became intolerant to and the one that always – without fail – has made me feel better. Fish and chips is a close second.

I’ll Drink to That.  Alcohol has played a significant role in helping me recover.

The anti-inflammatory properties cannot be underestimated.

Healthy eating is eating foods that provide what you need and don’t make you sick.

And as I’ve discovered, foods touted as being healthy can be extremely harmful.

It’s far more important what you don’t do and don’t ingest than what you do.

Meaning don’t ingest something that is harmful to your system.

Finding out what the ideal diet is takes a lot of work and my own experience has shown me that following expert advice isn’t always the way.

For me, foods purported to be healthy made me incredibly sick.  Especially foods touted to be anti-inflammatory.

It means that the responsibility for what constitutes healthy eating resides with the individual.

Who else knows your body the way you do?

Bland and boring.  Healthy eating isn’t about sawdust muffins and rabbit food that leaves you hungry.

It’s about you – and what is good for you.

Note:  What is considered healthy in another culture or what’s good for another individual  isn’t necessarily going to be good for you.

I once read a wonderful article written by a Hawaiian Native about why coconut oil can be harmful to people who were not raised with it. It’s true.  I’m highly intolerant to it, along with most tropical fruits. The Sulphur among other nutrients makes me horribly ill.

Wonderful and Delicious.  Food is part of celebrating life, not punishment.

That includes healthy food.

P.S.  I do not have strong opinions about vegans and vegetarians.  People need to do what is best for them.

The Christmas EMF Marker (of Success)

1887567-bigthumbnail

Eons ago when I was living (sick) in the East Bay, CA, Aaron and I visited the local Target to do a bit of late in the season shopping for Christmas decorations.  We were pointed to the “Seasonal Department.”

The Gardening Department.

At the end of an aisle, a little Victorian Christmas Village sat on display.

The last one type of thing.

It was perfect, so we bought it.

On sale.

I forged a love-pain relationship with this particular Christmas decoration.

Though it was okay the first year, as my health deteriorated, it became a source of pain (suffering).

By the time we moved to Fort Collins four years later, it was a decoration I couldn’t keep plugged in.

It made me EMF sick.  REALLY BAD!!!!!

I was unhappy because I liked the piece.

So did my kids.  Up til this point they had no idea how sick mom got.  In fact, I kept my illness a secret from them until about a year ago. (I’m good).

As recently as San Diego I had issues with this particular decoration.

Stubborn as I am and given how much “I” enjoyed it, I kept it plugged in as long as I could stand.

Tis the Season 2018:  As I unpacked the piece this year, I got the same kick in the gut I always do.

Will it make me sick?

Only one way to find out…

We hadn’t even started decorating the tree when I plugged it in…andddddddd… forgot about it!

I honestly forgot about it in the chaos of unpacking decorations brought out of storage, decorating the tree, etc.

As I write this, I’m sitting with the little village plugged in and I feel fine…

Happy (EMF Sensitivity Free) Holidays indeed…

Christmas-present-01

It is possible – I am living proof – to CURE EMF Sensitivity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Potassium – A Critical (Electrolyte) Mineral

the-symbol-for-the-element-potassium

It is only recently I’ve come to see the role that potassium has played not only in EMF Sensitivity but in a variety of health issues dating back to my childhood.

Specifically, the misdiagnosing of conditions which were really just potassium deficiency and could have been remedied by restoring potassium levels.

While my family has heard me talking about this for some time, it’s only through watching me deal with the fallout of excess calcium that they’ve seen how miraculous potassium can be in addressing a variety of symptoms, including migraines.

I was pleasantly surprised to come across an article about potassium this morning.  I’m so happy the woman decided to post her story and that the Chronicle picked it up.

It further illustrates the dangers of misdiagnosing potassium deficiency.

Migraine update:  The potassium did get rid of the migraine I was suffering earlier this week.  Several hours later, I had a meal that depleted the potassium to the degree it began to come back.  I took several doses of potassium over a period of hours and was able to get rid of it.

It’s been gone ever since.

I also got relief from listening to AC/DC.

Songs from the Back in Black album have and continue to do wonders.

My family was surprised I experienced such a bad migraine.

It had been years since I’d had one so painful.

I explained that my potassium levels got too low.

This is the downside to some of the testing I do.  I have unique chemistry which means it doesn’t take a lot to throw certain things off.  Fortunately, I do know what I’m doing.  I knew what happened – and how to fix it.

Potassium is a nutrient critical to health. one that should not be overlooked.

Note:  Magnesium will actually push potassium down so be very careful when trying to deal with magnesium deficiency or using magnesium to lower excess calcium stores.

Coffee, Banana, or Red Wine?

bananacoffee2cc_wide-f682009e4fcb4e6cdc8e51d18011dd58016d0183-s800-c85.jpgAt this point in the game of holistic health balance, it’s the subtle nuances that are the most challenging.

Imagine a boat in the water.  Just when things settle, a wave from a passing boat starts the rocking and in an attempt to stabilize things, you end up overcompensating which brings more water and turbulence into the boat – and into the situation.

I’ve just concluded a three-month study on the effects of various foods on my recovery from calcium toxicity.

These were foods I had had to cut out of my diet for unknown reasons.

I’ve narrowed the situation to a Sulphur/Calcium effect.

I’m still coming to understand the cause-effect but the more high Sulphur foods I ingest, the more Calcium is absorbed, the more dairy is a problem, the more symptoms I experience.

Just as spreading out electronic devices was a way to defeat the EMF “cumulative effect”, limiting the number of high Sulphur foods has helped me manage the overall healing situation while not worrying about have nothing to eat.

For awhile I was so limited in my food choices I was causing other issues.  I had barely anything at all I could eat.

At this stage, I cannot have coffee, banana, and red wine in the same day.  Since the banana is providing potassium, and coffee has a number of benefits, I decided red wine would be the food to go.

In the past six months I’ve studied the role alcohol plays in healing from autoimmune conditions.  It’s significant, though each alcohol type offers unique benefits.

As I continue to heal from the overload to my system, my chemistry changes.  I continue to adapt, learning as I go.

We really ARE What we Eat!

It’s truly worth not just paying lip service to the effect of foods and beverages on our health.

Chemical or Electrical? EMF Sensitivity Considerations…

Difference-Between-Electrochemical-Cell-and-Electrolytic-Cell-1As I sit here listening to Hi-Finesse’s Greatest Hits Vol. 1 and sipping a nice Oregon Pinot Noir, an interesting thought occurred to me.

The kind of random thought that fuels research.

While emotions have a vibrational frequency, which suggests they are electrical in origin or nature, I know the chemicals that induce them.

I know – from personal experience – what metal/minerals induce various health states and thoughts and feelings.

It brings to mind a conversation I had with a colleague who holds a PhD in chemistry.  It was at the onset of my research into EMF Sensitivity and I was deciding whether to write from a chemistry or physics angle.

Unlike physics, chemistry was not my strong suit. Ironically, that all changed upon discovering that nutritional imbalances are the root cause of autoimmune diseases including EMF Sensitivity.  Chem class anyone?

I stood on my front lawn in the East Bay, California, incredibly sick from EMF Sensitivity, even as I spoke to him on the cell phone.  He pointed out that nothing in the body happened that wasn’t chemical in nature.  I countered with the fact that the chemical messages relied on the electrical signaling network of the cells.

Thanks for your patience, wisdom and perspective, TK.

In the end I decided to go at it from the physics side for one simple reason:  I was extremely comfortable with the subject, including theoretical and  subatomic, and appreciated how the laws of physics explained how the universe works.

The various laws of physics and their associated components did more to explain what took place during my NDE than chemistry. Ironically, though many will not relate, physics did more to explain God than my Catholic upbringing.  For me, at least.**

The totality of the experience has taught me that we are electrochemical beings living in an electromagnetic world and the complexities of that present themselves in numerous ways, many of which have yet to be revealed.  But here is one of the ultimate ironies of it all.  Chemistry, and not electricity, is behind a great deal of the life-altering and often devastating symptoms associated with EMF Sensitivity.

Want proof?  Overload on calcium and watch how quickly depression sets in, along with anger and paranoia.  Oh, and we can’t forget hopelessness and despair.

EMFs of various frequencies can heighten and intensify the feelings but they don’t necessarily directly cause them.

Only 5 – 15% of the Western population is EMF Sensitive.

If you fix the chemical imbalances the ability of EMFs to induce negative states is reduced and/or eliminated.

Now consider this…where do we ingest most of our chemicals from?

I suggest you move beyond the air we breathe and even the water we drink for this exercise, though both do contribute significantly.

Let’s just say there is a hell of a lot more to EMF Sensitivity than Cellular or WiFi frequencies.

A GREAT place to start on the road to healing is to get your electrolytes balanced.  That’s an electrochemical solution at its finest.

**  I am aware of Dr. Michael Persinger’s “God Helmet” that suggests God is a brain manufactured electromagnetic phenomenon.  I counter with the perspective that God – Higher Power – etc – exists and that you can tune the brain like you tune a radio dial to pick up a frequency that is already there.

You can definitely “F” up this dial chemically, which puts it out of tune.

Too much of one mineral and not enough of another.  The minerals that have the most impact?  Electrolytes.

Variability Vs. Repeatability: The Challenge of Diagnosing EMF Sensitivity

unnamed
In reading an article about RF interference, I was reminded of the parallels between networking hardware and humans.

Humans are electrical beings.  We are all transmitting and receiving signals twenty-four hours a day. Our brains, an electrical organ, along with the nervous system – another one – process the signals and carry out any necessary actions as a result.

When I read a particular paragraph, I was reminded of the difficulty involved with diagnosing EMF Sensitivity.

This difficulty tends to leave researchers frustrated to the extent they dismiss the symptoms as psychosomatic.  In other words, the subjects are told there is no such thing as EMF Sensitivity though I think that sentiment is going out of fashion as more information about the legitimacy of this condition becomes available.

From the article:

  • What RF levels will impact equipment operations?
This is truly a case-by-case issue. There are no set regulations defining a single RF level that will cause RF interference. Among other things, it depends on the sensitivity of the equipment under consideration, or how low an interfering signal can be in the presence of the equipment and cause problems. Also, equipment can be particularly sensitive to very low signal levels of one frequency and yet quite immune to high signal levels of another frequency—so frequency is an important factor. Some electronic system components are internally shielded and have a very high immunity to interference. But generally, most equipment has not been so engineered.

I disagree with the last line where it applies to humans. Our immune systems are definitely designed to handle EMFs from a variety of sources.  When the immune system has been compromised because the body doesn’t have the nutrients necessary to make the enzymes and hormones that power this intricate system, then it is unable to shield effectively.

This paragraph beautifully illustrates the difficulty in diagnosing EMF Sensitivity.  Different people can and do react differently – different symptoms – to different frequencies.

No two EMF Sensitives will necessarily react the same way.

I once saw a video in which a British man was talking about how he and others who were EMF Sensitive had been participating in a laboratory study in which they were blasted with different electromagnetic frequencies. He expressed frustration at the fact the different members of the group responding differently to different frequencies and sometimes not being affected at all convinced researchers there was nothing scientifically measurable going on.

EMF Sensitivity is an environmental condition.

Though if you repair the internal environment, the external one has less – if any – negative impact.

EMF Sensitivity is caused by heavy metal toxicity induced mineral imbalance.  Fix that and the sensitivity – and its associated symptoms – vanish.

It’s a highly individualized condition.  This is why really digging into when any symptoms started and what environmental conditions – internal as well as external – changed is critical in mapping out a strategy to deal with it.

Keep a journal!!!!!

The scientific method so accepted for research may not be enough in this situation.

Variability and not repeatability needs to be prioritized.

Variability in the Treatment as Well.  Not all remedies work for all individuals.

It depends on what is going on with any one individual.

Not even the fact that mineral imbalance is at the root of the problem erases the need to accept variability.

Yes, detoxing heavy metals and other toxins is key, as is rebalancing the minerals.  The variability lies in the methods of detox and rebalancing, which will vary depending on what toxins are involved and what minerals need rebalancing.

Constant Change.  Just  to make this super fun – the body’s chemistry changes throughout the detoxification and rebalancing process, so changing the protocol as necessary – tweaking it – is critical.

No matter how often.

I write about this in my books.  An example would be how food intolerances can appear and disappear as the rebalancing ensues and continues.

All these variables necessitate that the patient be truly involved – I would go so far as to say needs to own responsibility for – their recovery.  A doctor can guide.  A doctor can suggest.  A doctor can run tests to illustrate progress.  Only the patient can tell if something changed prior to a doctor visit or test result.

It’s a myth that something is working because you feel worse before you feel better.  Sometimes, yes, but not nearly as often as you might think.

The best way to approach dealing with EMF Sensitivity when you are not a health expert is to accept that you are an expert – in YOU.

I believe a doctor and/or health care provider is a consultant. He or she is not a parent and does not and should not have the final say.

You are an expert in YOU!

Healing Holistically Is Like Organizing Your House

kitchen-food-pantry-small-food-pantry-cabinet-small-food-pantry-food-pantry-cabinets-with-kitchen-storage-for-small-spaces-small-food-pantry-cabinet-small-kitchen

I once had someone tell me, “I can’t move.  I have too much stuff.”

He and his wife had lived in their home for decades.

It reminds me of people who say, “I can’t go the natural way.  My doctor says I have to be on the medication for the rest of my life.

Yes, some people truly do need to take certain medications for the rest of their lives but for many, there are natural and holistic alternatives.

19 years ago, I had a doctor say that to me about thyroid medication.  I laughed and said, “You work on the thyroid, I’ll work on curing the underlying problem and get off of it.”  I was off the stuff within four months and have never needed it since.

I went to a woman at a health food place who regularly consulted with a holistic doctor. She had one of the machines that Dr. Clark refers to in her book The Cure for All Diseases.  She diagnosed me with low adrenal function, put me on a regimen of adrenal bovine and other natural therapies and voila!

That was small beans compared to what I had to do to cure myself of EMF Sensitivity and Rheumatic Arthritis.

Same exact root cause and same exact steps to cure both.

A Monumental Shift.  Choosing to address health problems naturally and holistically is the equivalent of cleaning out and organizing your home.

First, and most importantly, you have to decide to do it.

You need to start out small or you’ll end up overwhelmed.  In the case of the house, let’s say you start with a kitchen drawer. Then you might finish all the drawers. Then you take on the cupboards.

Once one room is finished, you can tackle the next, and the next.  Afterward, you have some choices to make.

The choice people all too often make is the most harmful.  “Oh my god, it all looks so bare!  What am I going to do with all this space?  I need to hurry and get more stuff to put in here!”

In other words, you go back to old habits that got you into trouble in the first place.

If you are not great at staying motivated or knowing what to do, I suggest you hire a professional.

Just like with organizing your home.

Choices Choices.  You could repaint the place, upgrade a few things, or perhaps decide to move in order to downsize.

This would fall into the simplify your life category.

You might decide you don’t need some of the stuff in your house.

This might be realizing you have some toxic situations in your life which could include a job and/or people and/or other situations. By the way, this likely played into how you ended up sick in the first place.  The stuff just sort of piles up over time and the next thing you know – trouble.

The Only Way Out Is Through.  There is no holistic quick fix.

There isn’t one with the pharmaceutical/surgical approach either.

Taking pills to mask symptoms is like shutting the door to a room or closet filled with junk.

The underlying problem doesn’t go away just because you can’t see it.

Going the holistic way is a commitment to yourself; one I think is worthwhile.

But it is not for everyone.  You truly have to buy into the philosophy of it.

You have to be willing to do the work.

The rewards are many!

Be well!

I was never a patient of Dr. Rosella.  He helped me heal indirectly.

As far as I am aware, Marty and her wonderful machine have long since moved on.
