When it comes to EMF Sensitivity, I am a true expert. I am an EMF Sensitive. I’ve done extensive research on EMF Sensitivity, nonstop, for the last 3 years. This research, on which I’ve written extensively, not only helped me understand what EMF Sensitivity is and isn’t, it led me to a variety of remedies that alleviate and/or eliminate the symptoms. As someone who is EMF Sensitive, I can certainly empathize with those who suffer [sometimes debilitating] symptoms when exposed to certain electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs). I understand the frustration of having every aspect of life impacted by something over which we have little, if any control.
However, in no way do I condone taking legal action against an individual, organization, city, or company, claiming they are responsible for the symptoms EMF Sensitive individuals feel. That makes as much sense as suing a city for planting oak trees in a public park because some people are allergic to them.
There are several problems with EMF Sensitivity litigation.
It’s basically an allergy. When someone is allergic to something, the body releases histamines. The subsequent inflammatory response results in symptoms (i.e. runny nose, watery, itchy eyes, hives) that differ based on the allergen. People who are sensitive to certain EMFs are having an allergic reaction to them.
Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing. On some level, people who are EMF sensitive hear the frequencies they are sensitive to. These signals are interpreted in such a way as to be perceived as a threat. As a result, the body’s immune system is stimulated and a histamine response takes place. The symptoms vary depending on the stimulus; in this case, a particular frequency. In my book, I describe the use of the allergy medication Benadryl in addressing symptoms.
EMF Safety has been tested. As I write in my book Riding the Waves: Diagnosing, Treating, and Living with EMF Sensitivity, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are responsible for the safety specifications of, among other things, technology related to electricity. Part of the process involves some pretty rigorous testing after which they release their findings to various organizations, all accompanied by the appropriate documentation. The information released includes the maximum threshold of the devices and circuits that have been tested.
Devices that meet these standards have the FCC seal of approval stamped on them. In Europe, the stamp is CE (Conformite Europeen).
No one is to blame. There has been a very sad trend in our country, if not in our world, to put the responsibility for almost every aspect of our lives on someone else. Society, encouraged by the media, plays an intense blame game that suggests we are helpless victims who have no control over our world. This is simply not true!
When people give responsibility for their lives to someone or something else, they give up their power. Not me. When I realized I was sensitive to certain electromagnetic frequencies, I took action. I learned everything I could about EMF Sensitivity and I searched tirelessly for ways to alleviate and/or eliminate the symptoms. Then I shared what I learned with the world because I knew there were others suffering the way I was.
When it comes to blame and EMF Sensitivity – sorry – the responsibility is with the one who is sensitive (allergic) to the frequency.
