While most people’s medicine cabinets include something for nausea and something for pain, there are actually many products that are good to have, both at home and in the car.
Bach Flower Remedies: While I have aquired a more comprehensive collection of remedies over the years, there are truly some basic formulas I believe worthy of keeping on hand. These remedies can be used safely with infants, children, and adults.
While a more common way of taking the remedies is in a beverage that is sipped throughout the day, the drops can be put directly under the tongue, rubbed onto skin, and put in a bath. There are several excellent books and websites for additional guidance.
Rescue Remedy. In addition to having a bottle of this formula at home, I keep one with me at all times. Excellent for shock, fright, and trauma, it’s also great for stress.
White Chestunut. This is a great remedy for times when it’s difficult to quiet the mind. Worries and other mental chatter can keep us from focusing and from being able to sleep.
Holly. For anger and hatred, this remedy is actually great for various childhood situations as well, including the terrible twos and sibling jealousy. If you have a new baby, putting a few drops of this remedy in an older sibling’s beverage can dissolve insecurity and jealousy. It will also reduce and/or eliminate the competitive behavior that sibling rivalry can often inspire, resulting in more harmony.
Walnut. This is a great remedy for dealing with change. And as a good friend of mine loves to say, change is the only constant. Again, this is a remedy that is great for children as well as adults. Starting a new school? Heading off to college? A new job? Getting new teeth (including wisdom teeth)? Moving to a new neighborhood? This remedy is amazingly helpful in such situations.
